When creating or editing a job, MyTrucking can now provide a Google-calculated driving distance between the job's origin and destination. This makes it easier to verify unfamiliar routes, populate job distances, and help ensure distance-based pricing is accurate.
Why use Google Route Preview?
Google Route Preview helps you:
Verify a route before dispatching a job
Check the estimated driving distance between locations
Quickly update the job's Distance field
Improve accuracy when using distance-based rate cards
Reduce the need to manually look up routes in Google Maps
Whether you're pricing a job, planning a route, or checking the suitability of a vehicle, route information is now available directly from the job screen.
How it works
When you add the Origin and Destination on a job, MyTrucking will calculate a suggested driving distance. The distance is based on the address entered on the Origin and Destination clients . The addresses need to be added using the Find Address search, not manually added.
You'll see:
A Google-estimated distance
The individual route legs for multi-stop jobs
A link to open and verify the route in Google Maps
An option to update the job's Distance field using the suggested distance
The suggested distance is provided as a guide and can be manually adjusted if required.
If the address has not been added using the Find Address Search, you will see a message pop up which allows you to click on the Location and edit the Physical address.
If you using a one-off location, the Route Preview map won't appear. Save as a New location and the map will display as expected.
To update the address:
Click Edit physical address
Search for the correct address in the Find Address field
Select the address and save your changes
Return to the job and reopen Route Preview to refresh the route using the updated address.
Viewing the route
If you'd like to review the route in more detail, click on More options.
This opens the route in Google Maps where you can.
Updating the Job Distance
Once you've reviewed the suggested distance, select Use km to automatically populate the job's Distance field.
You can still manually edit the Distance field at any time if a different value is required.
Multi-stop jobs
For jobs with multiple locations, MyTrucking will display each route leg used in the calculation.
For example:
Pickup → Yards
Yards → Final Destination
The total estimated distance is calculated from all route segments combined.
Distance-based rate cards
If you use distance-based rate cards, the Distance field may be used to determine which pricing band applies to a job.
Using the Google Route Preview can help ensure the correct distance is recorded before charges are calculated.
Things to know
Distance calculations are based on Google driving routes.
Distances are provided as a guide and should be verified where accuracy is critical.
UK customers will see distances displayed in miles rather than kilometres.
The Distance field can always be manually overridden if required.
